Yasur Volcano
The Yasur volcano is an active stratovolcano on the island of Tanna. Although the Yasur is an active volcano, it is still easily accessible. The walls are not very steep and you as a hiker can walk to the crater rim and watch how the lava spattering up. The volcano is 361 meters high and the crater has a diameter of about 400 meters.

The volcano exist because the Australian plate slides beneath the Pacific Plate. He bursts several times a day and these eruptions of Stromboli type.

Yasur is located southeast of the higher mountain Tukosmera and is a sacred area cargo cult for the followers of John Frum. It is also a major tourist attraction.
